We are the Süduferchor,
a choir for EVERYONE in Freiburg. We sing together, regardless of background, age, gender, language, physical ability or life situation.
We sing songs with and without sheet music, in different languages from many parts of the world.
Since 2016 we have rehearsed every Tuesday at 7 pm at Theater SÜDUFER – an accessible venue of Freiburg's independent arts scene. Hundreds of people from the most diverse backgrounds and walks of life have already sung together in the Süduferchor.
The music we sing grows out of songs that choir members bring from their multiple homes and backgrounds. Together, we arrange the music for the choir in the spirit of transcultural music. You don't need to read music or have any choir experience to sing – what matters is the joy of singing and of coming together.
We believe in solidarity: people pay what they can. The choir was founded in 2016 as a project of E-Werk Freiburg and has been an independent association since 2023, continuing to work closely with the E-Werk.
Alongside concerts, the choir takes part in theatre productions and interdisciplinary projects, for example on: Freiburg's migration history, love poetry, the global food system, or multilingual children's songs. Performances are designed to be accessible to everyone – with a pay-what-you-can ticket model or free admission.
